“In 15 minutes time the general emergency signal will sound. It will consist of 7 blasts and one long blast on the ships whistle….” What? What do I do? Where do I stand? No one told me about this in the interview… Mild panic set in as after two weeks of intense training and a flight half way across the world I felt that I would finally be caught out by an emergency drill. Suddenly another team member grabs my hand and leads me to my muster position, I take a deep breathe in, I look around, I am outside St Marks in Venice, the sun is setting, my adventure is just started, I think I could get used to this. This scenario is played out weekly on one of the 130 luxury cruise ships operated by Steiner Fitness.

Hello, my name is Yasmin and I am one of eleven trainers for work in the Steiner Training Academy. To give you some background on me, I train the Ionithermie body treatments as well as among other task, regularly writing for ‘Scratch’ magazine.

“I joined the academy as a student in September 1996. After one month of training in La Therapie, Ionithermie and Elemis I went onboard my first vessel and started working for Steiner Leisure, the parent company who are based in Miami”

I remember thinking whilst being onboard, that, I had never worked so hard in my entire life, but I loved every minute of it. Every week was a brand new experience and adventure; each contract took me to new exciting ports. I have been to Hawaii and had a lual on the beach, ‘gone loco’ in Acapulco, traveled to snowy Iceland as well as sailing through the steamy, tropical Panama Canal.
